I take pride in calling myself a Book Lover. Books have played a great role in my life. This blog is devoted to books that enlighten, elevate and uplift. I shall try to provide links to good and great books, besides discussing about them.(Grateful thanks to Jon Sullivan and Public-Domain-Photos.com for freely providing the background photo).
Barack Obama's much-awaited memoir, "A Promised Land", is
hitting the shelves. The 700-page tome takes us from the former US president's
childhood to the killing of Osama bin Laden during his first term in office. In
the book, he makes clear that Donald Trump's presidency was no accident and was
triggered by his own stint in the top job. We take a closer look.

This video is about the novel The Color Purple by Alice Walker.
The novel brings the spirit of celebration and also the perspectives of
Celie, the protagonist who also comes to joy and ultimately makes her celebrate
the life that turns into pleasures, including The Color Purple in her life. The
episodic form of the novel also develops in the character's understanding of
consciousness that has been raised and the terms of feminism and liberation
have been established.

The decade from the 2008 global financial crisis to the 2020 coronavirus
pandemic has seen a real transformation of the world order. The very nature of
international relations and its rules are changing before our eyes. For India,
this means optimal relationships with all the major powers to best advance its
goals. It also requires a bolder and non-reciprocal approach to its
neighbourhood. A global footprint is now in the making that leverages India’s
greater capability and relevance, as well as its unique diaspora. This era of
global upheaval entails greater expectations from India, putting it on the path
to becoming a leading power. In The India Way, S. Jaishankar, India’s Minister
of External Affairs, analyses these challenges and spells out possible policy
responses. He places this thinking in the context of history and tradition,
appropriate for a civilisational power that seeks to reclaim its place on the
world stage.

In 1815, Lord Byron proposed a challenge to a few literary guests he had
gathered in his house on Lake Geneva: Who could write the most chilling ghost
story? This question sparked an idea in eighteen-year-old Mary Shelley who,
over the next few months, crafted the story of “Frankenstein.” Iseult Gillespie
shares everything you need to know to read Mary Shelley’s classic novel.

The prisoner strapped under a descending pendulum blade. A raven who
refuses to leave the narrator’s chamber. A beating heart buried under the
floorboards. Poe’s macabre and innovative stories of gothic horror have left a
timeless mark on literature. But just what is it that makes Edgar Allan Poe one
of the greatest American authors? Scott Peeples investigates.

Traditional Values and Spiritual Growth by Psychiatrist M. Scott Peck. This

How best can
we understand the internal experience of alienation? In both her essays and her
fiction, Virginia Woolf shapes the slippery nature of subjective experience
into words, while her characters frequently lead inner lives that are deeply at
odds with their external existence. ISEULT GILLESPIE helps make sense of these
disparities to prepare you for the next time you read Virgina Woolf.
