Timeless Lessons from His Life and Work

Nikola Tesla’s unusual life and mind, along with his many visions and innovations, have helped shape our past, present, and future.

Seventy years after his death, Nikola Tesla has become a rock star. World-changing inventions made him a celebrity in his own time, but something otherworldly makes him transcend his era and remain an eternal beacon for our civilization. Tesla’s prescient visions and schematics of a future where energy, science, and world peace co-exist elevate him above the mere title of “inventor.” His ideas and inventions are still shaping our present and future in profound ways. In Nikola Tesla, John F. Wasik not only looks at how Tesla arrived at his inventions; he also illuminates how you can tap into the same source of creation within yourself.

JOHN F. WASIK, the author of 18 books and more than 1,000 columns, blogs, and articles for the Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Reuters, Forbes, and Bloomberg News, has been researching Nikola Tesla for more than a decade. He has also consulted with Tesla experts worldwide and explored the vast resources of the Edison, JP Morgan, Westinghouse, and FBI archives.

BOOK OF THE DAY : THE HIMALAYAN MASTER & THE SIXTH SENSE

A Spiritual Autobiography:- Initiated by a Himalayan Yogi (ascetic) with a beej (Vedic seed) mantra (prayer or chant), two years later a university student wakes up in the night to find his mind connecting with far off people and places. Perplexed and scared, he finds not only his intuition getting stronger with every passing day but also some weird prophetic voices descending from the universe into his brain.
His life changes permanently into a ceaseless seeking of the mysteries of the mind, meditation, and monks. Many Himalayan Masters miraculously appear on the way guiding him through different stages.
Observing his own mind in regular meditation for almost two decades, he witnesses layers of his mind gradually falling apart until the day when the mind no longer remains and a new zone of deep silence dawns. This journey eventually culminates at the feet of an ageless Master.
Other books of the author:
1) 'The Alliance without Enemy: A Post Cold War History of West'
2) 'The UPSC Odyssey: Daring to Dream an IAS Officer'

OLGA TOKARCZUK, POLISH WRITER AND NOBEL LAUREATE FOR LITERATURE

"I taught myself to read, I’m not sure exactly when, as if it were something as natural as walking. I have often wondered whether the ability to read is built into our brains as a potential skill, or whether perhaps we inherit it from our ancestors who learned to read during their lives, in which instance I suspect it would only go a few generations back. In my case this ability was definitely to do with the fact that I was brought up among books – my dad ran the school library, and I dug around in them from early childhood. They weren’t books for children at all. One of my favourite early books was a collection of partisan songs. I knew how to sing them, so reading with understanding came to me naturally and easily. Among the hundreds of volumes eagerly borrowed by the pupils there were also art books and encyclopaedias. I can boldly say that encyclopaedias were my favourite literary genre throughout my childhood – my first “constellation” reading matter."

When did you learn to read?

BOOK OF THE DAY : SMALL TOWNS, BIG STORIES - RUSKIN BOND

"...small towns may be smaller than cities, and there may be fewer people living in them, but the stories they provide a writer with are big. They contain worlds upon worlds within them."
I am a small-town native but have spent a good time in metro cities too. What Mr Bond wants to convey through the above-quoted lines, I have experienced it very clearly. There are worlds upon worlds within a small town. Small towns are soulful. No one is in a hurry to rush for the competition and for earning the high-end survival means. Life is simple in small towns are people are usually contented with the meagre lifestyle. And when Mr Bond talks about a small hill town, the level of contentment is very easily acquired. Small towns have liveliness in them and Mr Bond's words bring forth that liveliness like magic. It is always a delight to read his stories.
This book is a compilation of twenty-one very delightful stories, most of which have already made their appearance in different anthologies. But the idea here is to bring together the gist and soul of a small town, and all the stories make that point a great success. No doubt, Mr Bond's storytelling is unmatched. You get to experience the lives of some vibrant characters. Besides experiencing these lively stories, we get to hold a book with a very beautiful cover. The book is a publication of Aleph Book Company.
All I can say is that the book is beautiful and magical.

BOOKS OF THE DAY : TALES FROM THE CHILDHOOD - RUSKIN BOND

#repost #memories

This book has three beautiful and heartwarming stories of childhood, peppered with endearing characters. The stories will leave you with a feeling of warmth. You'll at once yearn for your childhood. There is innocence of childhood that can make you take bigger initiatives. It doesn't matter you succeed or fail. The thing that matters is you take a responsibility, and try every possible way to complete the task. And there's a story about a hilarious moment caused by failure of proper communication, that turns into rumours. The third story teaches that how human values and relations are important in life and how these can change a person.
These three stories are full of adventures and misadventures, and come with good message for children. Illustrations are highly attractive that make the stories come alive. This is a perfect book for children.

BOOK OF THE DAY : STORIES OF WISDOM - RUSKIN BOND

#Repost #memories

When you find yourself getting lost in a story, and keep wishing for it to never end, nothing can be better than that. This is usually the case with Ruskin Bond's stories. Writing about his stories is like showing candle to the Sun. But l can't help it. What fun it is when you have a bunch of like-minded people to share you feelings with! It doubles your happiness that you've found after reading the story.

This book has two wonderful and engrossing stories. The best thing is that these stories come with strong messages of wisdom. Mr. Bond tells about the life of hill folks in his stories, and the hardships, they go through, due to tough conditions of their surroundings. The changing weather conditions, mainly due to deforestation, has affected them a lot, and it has made, earning the necessities of life, tough for them. The hills where once there was snow, are now facing forest fires, lessened rains, deforestation and polluted air. Living in these changing conditions, and longing for the good bygone times is heartbreaking sometimes. Mr. Bond has wonderfully created a story out of these conditions that can help the kids understand the worsening conditions of hills, and can create wisdom to being a part in positive progress, that wouldn't harm the Nature. My favourite line from the book is,

"It is better to grow things on the land than to blast things out of it."

Another wonderful thing about Ruskin sir's writing is the way he fits birds, trees and other natural beings and objects in every story, where it is not needed actually, but it makes the story so amazing that you feel mesmerized. There's one such reference in one of the stories from this book,

"A rock lizard popped its head out of a crevice to look at the intruders. Then, like some prehistoric survivor, it scuttled back into its underground shelter."

What more can I say! I fall more in love with this man's work the more I read his books. I wish he always keep writing and my heart keep getting more bigger with the happiness I gain from reading his words.

What drives someone to kill in cold blood? What goes through the murderer’s mind? And what kind of a society breeds such people? Over 150 years ago Fyodor Mikhailovich Dostoyevsky took these questions up in what would become one of the best-known works of Russian literature: “Crime and Punishment.” Alex Gendler digs into the classic novel's exploration of alienation, morality and redemption.

BOOK OF THE DAY : RELATIVITY MADE RELATIVELY EASY

Given the renewed appreciation for Albert Einstein’s contributions to humanity, physicist and popular science writer Barry Parker dedicates #RelativityMadeRelativelyEasy, explaining in the clearest possible terms to the broadest possible audience the meaning and beauty of Einstein’s theories.

While tracing Einstein’s life story, Parker seizes on the crucial groundbreaking theories that Einstein envisioned. Through Parker’s eloquence, eye for detail and clever use of Einsteinian cartoons and vivid illustrations, he enables the reader to see and appreciate, for perhaps the first time, the full meaning and scope of Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity and General Theory of Relativity.

The clarity of the writing coupled with the many illustrations will drive home why so many consider Einstein the greatest scientist who ever lived.

It was such an honour sitting down with Michelle Obama to chat about her new book Becoming, where she has bared her soul and shared her life in incredible detail. Writing WEconomy was one of the most difficult but most rewarding things I have done and that’s why I started the Meet the Author” series as really wanted to know more about other author's journeys and what inspired them to write their books.

Michelle really is the most phenomenal storyteller and from the very first chapter I felt like I was there with her living her life story, especially as I was listening on audiobook with Michelle’s voice recounting the details. It was so enthralling and staggeringly honest.  I'm not the only one who has loved it - Becoming has taken the title of 2018's best seller – selling over 2 million copies in the US in just two weeks.

During our interview Michelle was happy to discuss everything. From revealing what she really thinks of politics, building and sustaining a strong marriage, her struggles to get pregnant and going through IVF, the impact that politics had on her family and how her upbringing and parents shaped her life growing up
