BOOK OF THE DAY

*Amazon Book Overview*

Written in 1845, just 3 years before revolutions swept Europe, The Wandering Jew is the classic French novel that became an international bestseller. Originally serialized, the novel created a sensation and has remained of interest to readers and scholars ever since.

The Wandering Jew (French: Le Juif errant) begins with the description of two figures who cry out to each other across the Bering Straits. One is the Wandering Jew, the other his sister. The Wandering Jew also represents the cholera epidemic- wherever he goes, cholera follows in his wake. The Wandering Jew and his sister are condemned to wander the earth until the entire Rennepont family has disappeared from the earth.

The connection is that the descendants of the sister are also the descendants of Marius de Rennepont, Huguenots persecuted under Louis XIV by the Jesuits. The brother and sister are compelled to protect this very family from all harm. After this first introduction, the two appear only very rarely.

The Rennepont family is unaware that these protective minences grises exist, but they benefit from their protection in various ways, be it by being saved from scalping by the Native Americans, or from languishing in prison.

BOOK OF THE DAY

Amazon Book overview

A prominent Viennese psychiatrist before the war, Viktor Frankl was uniquely able to observe the way that he and other inmates coped with the experience of being in Auschwitz. He noticed that it was the men who comforted others and who gave away their last piece of bread who survived the longest - and who offered proof that everything can be taken away from us except the ability to choose our attitude in any given set of circumstances.

The sort of person the prisoner became was the result of an inner decision and not of camp influences alone. Only those who allowed their inner hold on their moral and spiritual selves to subside eventually fell victim to the camp's degenerating influence - while those who made a victory of those experiences turned them into an inner triumph.

Frankl came to believe that man's deepest desire is to search for meaning and purpose. This outstanding work offers us all a way to transcend suffering and find significance in the art of living.

BOOK OF THE DAY

10 lessons from The 10 Pillars of Wealth: Mind-Sets of the World's Richest People by Alex Becker:

1. Think like a multimillionaire. This means having a mindset of abundance, opportunity, and possibility. It also means being willing to take risks and push yourself outside of your comfort zone.

2. Separate your time from money. This means creating systems and assets that generate income for you, even when you're not working. It also means being frugal and avoiding unnecessary expenses.

3. Understand the lessons multimillionaires have learned through years of trial and error. Multimillionaires have made their mistakes and learned from them. They've also developed winning habits and strategies that they use to achieve their goals.

4. Map out the exact steps needed to build million-dollar businesses. There is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question, but there are some common steps that successful entrepreneurs take. These steps include identifying a problem that people are willing to pay to solve, developing a solution, and marketing and selling that solution.

5. Skip time-wasting mistakes and learn how to make money quickly by focusing solely on what gets you paid. This means focusing on your core competencies and outsourcing or delegating tasks that are not essential to your success. It also means being willing to say no to opportunities that are not a good fit for you.

6. Invest in yourself. This means investing in your education, your personal development, and your health. It also means investing in your business and your assets.

7. Build a strong team. No one can achieve success on their own. Surround yourself with talented and supportive people who will help you to achieve your goals.

8. Be persistent. Don't give up on your dreams, even when things get tough. Multimillionaires never give up, and that's one of the reasons why they're so successful.

9. Give back to others. Once you've achieved success, it's important to give back to others who are less fortunate. This can be done through philanthropy, mentoring, or simply helping others in need.

10. Enjoy the journey. Success is not a destination, it's a journey. Make sure to enjoy the ride along the way.

Becker's book provides a valuable framework for building wealth and achieving financial independence. It is a must-read for anyone who is serious about achieving financial success.

BOOK OF THE DAY

In 100 Things We've Lost to the Internet, Pamela Paul takes a nostalgic look at the world before the internet and reflects on the many things that have been lost in the digital age. From handwritten letters to phone calls, from encyclopedias to maps, Paul argues that the internet has not only changed the way we communicate and access information, but has also altered our sense of time, space, and memory.

Fifteen lessons from 100 Things We've Lost to the Internet:

1. The internet has made us more connected, but it has also made us more isolated.

2. The internet has given us access to a vast amount of information, but it has also made us more susceptible to misinformation.

3. The internet has made it easier to communicate with others, but it has also made it harder to have meaningful conversations.

4. The internet has made us more aware of the world around us, but it has also made us more aware of our own shortcomings.

5. The internet has made us more efficient, but it has also made us more impatient.

6. The internet has made us more informed, but it has also made us more opinionated.

7. The internet has made us more global, but it has also made us more tribal.

8. The internet has made us more productive, but it has also made us more distracted.

9. The internet has made us more creative, but it has also made us more imitative.

10. The internet has made us more connected to the past, but it has also made us more forgetful of the present.

11. The internet has made us more aware of our own mortality, but it has also made us more afraid of death.

12. The internet has made us more aware of the suffering of others, but it has also made us more desensitized to suffering.

13. The internet has made us more aware of the beauty of the world, but it has also made us more aware of its ugliness.

14. The internet has made us more aware of the power of technology, but it has also made us more aware of its limitations.
